Conflicts of Interest

VeraCity Staff members should be mindful of situations that could cause you to pursue a personal benefit for yourself or your friends. This is a conflict of interest. All VeraCity Staff members should avoid conflict of interests that reasonably present the appearance of a conflict.

  • Friends and Relationships

Avoid participating in management or decision-making regarding potential or existing relationships you may have formed during your tenure. To be clear, just because a friend or close friend is involved in a decision you may need to make, does not mean there is a conflict of interest. However, if you are also involved in a situation which includes both yourself and your friend, it can be extremely sensitive. The right thing to do is to recuse yourself from the situation or seek guidance from your Chain of Command.

Romantic relationships between anyone in VeraCity can, depending on your role and respective positions, present an actual conflict of interest. If a romantic relationship does create a conflict, it may require changes be made or even role changes to either or both individuals.
